A few days ago, I began to make progress on one of the items on my Old/Boring/30 list--learn Japanese. I do not have a ton of free time to dedicate to this process, but I am learning a word here and a word there when I can (I'm up to 9 kanji!). I decided to burn a couple of plaques to hang in my room, and this is the first one I did. The symbols are part of one of the Japanese alphabets (the kanji alphabet), and they form the word "kami" which means "God".
I may go back and oil this plaque, but for now, I am leaving it unfinished.

Note: Sorry about the inconsistent posting--school and work have both started getting crazy at the same time.

That is so cool! My aunt made me a plaque when I was born with my full name and DOB, it's beautiful and makes me smile. There is just something about a piece of burnt wood (;D) that brings a sense of home and southern ties.
ReplyDeleteLooks great and congrats on starting what I believe to be one of the hardest languages! I can't imagine learning a whole new alphabet that doesn't even match up to the one I use daily. Can't wait to "learn" new words through your blog!
PS- Keegz sent me here, glad to "meet" you outside of G+!
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAs for learning Japanese, I'm actually finding it a little easier to get than when I took French in high school...I think part of it is because it is so different, I'm not trying to compare it to English and figure out what it is based on what it sounds like. Plus, I am choosing to study it instead of having to for school, haha.
It's nice to 'meet' you, KJ! (and I feel kinda bad for saying this, but could you contact me on G+, because I have no idea who you are based off of your username and the little tiny thumbnail I can't get to expand)
*pondering* Hmmm interesting! Well have fun! I know that I too tend to enjoy learning if it's on my own accord and not an assignment :). I am currently re-reading all of the books that I was assigned in Highschool and am loving them the second time around :P
DeleteI will :). Will have to go through Keegz so I hope I get the right "Michael" :D. Is there a way to contact you through your G+ page or your blog? Like on my G+ I have it set up so that new followers can send me an email to verify who I am without me having to hand out my email address to possible strangers :)
I don't have my G+ linked to this blog for privacy reasons. (And I was thinking that we were already connected on G+ because of "glad to "meet" you outside of G+!"...thus why I felt bad about not knowing who you were :] )
DeleteWell are you the one who just added me????
DeleteOh no! I just meant do you have any way to contact you via your blog? But I too am very leery of having strangers contact me so I understand the security measures.
No, we weren't. We have a mutual friend (the one who sent me here to check your blog out) and I have seen some of your comments on her G+ posts. That's all! Sorry for the confusion!
